G'day everyone, and welcome to this little tiny corner of The Raven's Writing Desk that's now mine to call home. Oh, and the name's Conny Kaufmann, by the way.
Name: Well, Conny itself is already a nickname, so does that count? In the realms of fanfiction I am also known as bakerstreetgirl (AO3) and thebakerstreetgirl (ff.net).
Age: Older than I look and younger than I seem. I have seen 2 millennia, 2 centuries, 4 decades, yet I'm a happy-go-lucky twenty-something.
Location: I call my flat "221b Baker Street" for a reason, but alas it's not in London. It's not even in England (although I have lived in the UK for six years and New Zealand for one year). My current location is Germany, although this might change every now and then.
How long have you been writing? Ever since I could hold a pen and trace letters, so probably since I was 3 or 4 years old. I made writing my profession, I'm a travel journalist, freelance news reporter, press photographer and theatre critic. And when I'm not writing articles I like to relax by writing short stories, blog posts, reviews and the occasional original novel. Although I am German, I'm bilingual and write everything (with the exception of my weekly shopping list) in English.
And what got you into it? I've always been the story teller. As early as primary school, my short stories and essays were singled out. When I'm writing I'm in my element. Then I discovered newspapers and started writing articles for my local daily's youth page, the school newspaper and various other publications. My twin passions are writing and travelling, so the decision to become a travel journalist wasn't that hard, to be fair.
What's your favourite fandom and why do you love it? Probably the first fandom I was ever part of was X-Files, from when I was 6 onwards. My hair is still red today after trying to dye it Scully's colour when I was 12 and not getting all the red pigments out.
My absolute favourite TV show is Sherlock. I've been a Sherlockian since I was 8 and first read the Arthur Conan Doyle stories, but the BBC's modern take is perfect in writing, casting and cinematography. Maybe I should rephrase that a bit. I'm a Sherlockian, yes, but really, I'm more of a John Watson-ian and always have been. I think I'm one of the few fangirls who didn't get into the show because of Benedict Cumberbatch. My absolute favourite actor is Martin Freeman (and has been since The Office) and I've always liked Rupert Graves as well since I first saw Maurice. What can I say, I have a thing for middle-aged, sarcastic BAMFs.
My other fandoms include: Doctor Who, X-Files, The Almighty Johnsons, Harry Potter, J.R.R. Tolkien (including The Hobbit/The Lord of the Rings), Buffy, Angel, Life on Mars/Ashes to Ashes, Jonathan Creek, The League of Gentlemen and many more.
What will you be contributing to the blog? I'll be in charge of episode reviews of X-Files, Buffy and Angel here on The Raven's Writing Desk. Other bits of my writing can be found on my blog 'Study. Read. Write.' (studyreadwrite.wordpress.com)
So, am I a madwoman with a blue pen? Deduce it. The truth is out there!
