Book Review: Mistress Masham's Repose

Now here is a book that I'm willing to bet most of you haven't heard of before. Mistress Masham's Repose by T.H. White is a book that my mother introduced me to and that I quickly fell in love with. It tells the story of a young girl named Maria, her cruel governess and guardian, and the remnant of the Lilliputian people that she discovers hiding out on the grounds of her family's derelict estate.

It is both an adventure story and a hilarious parody...a biting satire and commentary on human nature and society that also manages to teach important life lessons about prejudice, humility, and your place in the world. Certainly it has moved me to tears (of laughter) on several occasions. Sometimes the story goes a bit over-the-top and melodramatic, but it's all in good fun. You're not supposed to take it seriously. And it's never done in bad taste. The characters are hilarious, the story is intriguing, and it's just good, clean fun. Definitely something that EVERYONE should check out at some point in their lives.
