Classic Who Review: Series 5 Story 1 "The Tomb Of The Cybermen"

*Spoiler Alert* I'll try to stay spoiler free. But I might slip. You have been warned!*

From The Author:

Hi everyone, Seth here. First a disclaimer: I'm using a different laptop today and it's missing part of the "W" key so if I say something like "Dr ho" that's why :) A little about this episode: It holds a very special place in my heart as the first Classic episode I could sit through. I loved this episode so much and it had me on the edge of my seat the whole way. I absolutely insist you see this. If it's the only classic episode you ever see that's fine, just watch it.

"Where do I watch this?"

Not on Netflix :( It *may* be on hulu but I'm not sure... I bought them on Google Play and I'd assume iTunes would have it as well. And there's always the DVD's.

Heros! (Yay!)

The brilliant 2nd Doctor, Jamie, and Victoria feature in this episode, and do an absolutely great job of it (even Vic). In the best part of any episode of anything I've ever seen; they tell the single funniest joke ever. I won't spoil it it's so good. It happens as they are going through the door to the tomb but you should know it when you hear it. Also, it wasn't scripted; it was actually an ad lib.

Villains! (Boo!)

Obvious villains are an early who specialty and this episode is no exception. You'll know who they are right away.

The Random Stuff:

It seems to me that they've tamed down the cybermen quite a bit since the early days. The new one's look pretty cool but the old one's were pretty darn creepy! I can easily imagine kids getting scared by these guys.

Resistance is futile! Oh wait wrong show... Anyways it's pretty cool to see someone being slowly assimilated. Yet another thing the new show has tamed down quite a bit.

OK I'll say something good about the new show: they sure did good upgrading the Cybermites! CGI'ing them looks a smidge better then the felt teeth in this episode.

The stereotyped Americans in this story are hilarious! Rough, tough, bossy, and always reaching for their gun!

Haha! that jump scare cliffhanger really got me scared! You'll know it when you see it.

Plenty of redshirts in this one, so don't get attached unless they're a main character. Ahh remember those times when you could count on a main character surviving? :)

I think it's pretty cool that the villains aren't invincible. They're so weak they need to conserve every precious drop of energy, which I like. Invincible villains annoy me.

Really people, Watch this story. Even if you can't stand Classic Who, this episode is just so excellent it really deserves a proper chance. It rarely gets slow so really do give it a try.

Conclusion:

The best classic who episode ever IMO. EVER! GO WATCH IT NOW!!!! NOW!!!!
WHAT ELSE NEEDS SAYING??!!!! GO SEE IT!!!!  Final Rating: 18 out of 5. Yes it's that good.

Afterwards:

You know the drill, I'll put the next one up when the feeling hits me. Up next: The Caves of Androzani!
See you all next time, hope you enjoyed! -SM
