From the author:
Hi everybody, Seth here. In short I'd like to apologize for the lack of content lately. It's just been one thing after another and between getting sick twice, being busy with life, and work; I just haven't had the time. so once more: sorry, and I swear I will get regular at this eventually...
Forward
The famous lost episode, The Web Of Fear. The first appearance of our friend the brigadier, the return of the Yeti, and good old Jamie make this episode one not to miss!
*spoiler alert* I try to make my reviews safe for people who haven't seen the episodes, but as I'll likely slip, do yourself a favor and go watch the story.
"How can I watch this?"
Sadly no Netflix for this one but it is on DVD at most places that sell the classic DVD's and on iTunes.
My go to TARDIS crew!
Patrick Troughton! My favorite doctor. I just like him. I believe that every doctor coming after him was trying to imitate him. He defined what the show was about and wore bowties before they were cool.
Jamie! I don't even know where to start! He's just so awesome in my opinion. He was the longest serving companion of all time and proves that the Doctor's companions don't need to be a pretty actress to make the show great. Also, kilt's are cool.
Victoria... Ok I'll just say right now that I like Victoria about the same way I like Clara. I don't dislike her but I feel the episode would have been so much better without her. I could say more on the subject, and I will, likely in a future rant.
Villains
Our good friend Mr The G.I. makes his last appearance in the classic show, unseen again until the NuWho episode The Snowmen. Also appearing are a new 'scarier' Yeti. IMO this version of the Great Intelligence is much more frightening then the new version, with his abilities to possess humans, control his Yeti's, reanimate the dead, and there is that awesome raspy voice.
Synopsis
A "base under siege" style episode, we find The Doctor and his companions trapped in the London Underground battling the G.I. and his Yeti's.
Assorted Randomness That Popped Into My Head.
Fun fact: The BBC wanted to film in a real london underground station, but this was not allowed. To get around this the Beeb built their own replica station, which was so accurate the BBC was sued by the Underground!
The G.I.'s "other set of hands" mystery is awesome. I was so shocked i couldn't guess who it was. No I'm not going to tell.
Gosh, the "Driver". I can't remember his name and I don't want to. Annoying, a deserter, and a coward; although I must admit it does save his life so hey... Go cowards!
This episode is one of two featuring the G.I. and the Yeti. As much as I like this episode It's so frustrating that we miss out on a lot of the back story due to the other episode being lost.
Why do I keep calling him the G.I.? Simple. Great Intelligence is soooooo much to type.
A higher ratio of Redshirts die in this one episode then all of Star Trek TOS. This episode is a bad one to be in and be in UNIT.
BAZOOKAS!!! WHOOSH BOOM! UNIT needs more bazookas.
Reconstruction. In order to get this episode out as soon as possible, the BBC decided to recreate the missing episode of the story using photos and synced audio. Youtube homemade style. I admit it's not near as good as a reconstruction as an animation would have been, However watching it wasn't a chore and I must admit I quite enjoyed it.
Conclusion
A very nice episode showing my beloved Second Doctor in sparkling form. A good story with good acting (yes really), Awesome camera work, a good villain and some totally awesome companions... Except for Vic. (Future rant spoiler) 4 1/5 out of 5. Just because it gets a bit long and slow.
Post-Script
Not sure which episode I'll do next, probably Tomb Of The Cybermen (subject to change). What episode's do you want done? let me know! also I am short on time lately so I can't give an exact time when it will come out. I'll do it when the feeling hits me. See you next time! -Seth
